DATALLEGRO TO USE EMC CLARiiON MIDRANGE STORAGE IN ITS DATA WAREHOUSE APPLIANCE
Hardware Architecture Strengthened with Addition of EMC’s Leading Storage System
TDWI Las Vegas, NV – February 20, 2007 – DATAllegro™, supplier of the most advanced data warehouse appliance on an enterprise-class platform, today announced that it is now using an EMC® CLARiiON® midrange networked storage system in all of its data warehouse appliances. Built on the EMC-developed UltraScale architecture, the EMC CLARiiON midrange storage system features combined Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity within the same array, end-to-end 4Gb/s (gigabit-per-second) Fibre Channel technology for unparallel performance, and simple, task-based management software. With EMC CLARiiON as the storage platform of choice for the DATAllegro appliance, customers will enjoy the storage performance benefits and reliability of EMC technology.
DATAllegro entered the data warehousing market in 2004 with a strategy of combining its patent-pending data warehouse software with standard components and an open source database engine. The new DATAllegro v3 platform takes this to a higher level with a hardware platform that uses standard servers, storage and networking from major vendors. The result is a data warehouse appliance with extremely fast performance and a price that is a fraction of what is typically seen in the market. In addition, the architecture enables a more flexible and open platform that has the potential to more rapidly evolve, and to address a broader range of business intelligence initiatives than other data warehouse appliance in the market.
“Instead of having to expend huge amounts of effort to develop and enhance a best-of-breed storage solution, we are able to focus on our software,” said Stuart Frost, CEO of DATAllegro. “This is a great benefit to our customers who are able to see more rapid enhancements and upgrades than others can provide at a much lower cost.”
"EMC supports the "best in breed" philosophy that DATAllegro used in designing its new data warehouse appliance. They've capitalized on various industry-leading and proven technologies, including an EMC CLARiiON networked storage system. This relationship provides customers with a performance optimized and highly available data warehouse solution," said Chuck Hollis, Vice President, Technology Alliances, EMC Corporation.
“The data warehouse market has recently attracted a variety of large players such as IBM, HP and Sun. Some have their own technology, but others are using partnerships to obtain a share of this rapidly growing market. EMC’s relationship with DATAllegro is a win-win for both companies enabling each to have a stronger presence and offering in this space,” said Dan Vesset, business analytics research director at IDC. “DATAllegro's move to an open platform is yet another signal of a price/performance realignment in the data warehousing market, presenting organizations seeking a business analytics solution an attractive alternative.”
In addition, DATAllegro’s customers will benefit from the EMC CLARiiON Ultrascale architecture that delivers high availability, fault tolerance and industry-leading performance. For further information on DATAllegro v3 and other new partnerships, see additional press releases from today.
